Valerian is a root well known for its properties of calm the anxious and relax the sleepless. It smells funky – like a washrag left in the corner of the laundry. It tastes even funkier.
Valerian is also useful as a muscle relaxant, so useful against menstrual cramps and other types of spasms.
A convenient way to take valerian is in tablet form or making tea from the leaves and roots.
Note that Valerian is not related to Valium!
